The goals of this integration fully integrated capture & imaging project for Forrest General Hospital were to eliminate paper, comply with HIPAA and other government regulations, protect existing infrastructure and increase departmental processing efficiencies. Four points of integration were identified: MISYS system for electronic patient records; SoftMed® for deficiency tracking; Lawson Accounts Payable system; and COLD files out of the Siemens INVISION® billing system.

Each department had a different set of issues to be addressed. HIM wanted a HIPAA-compliant solution with the ability to image-enable MISYS; combine/separate accounts via HL7 upload; capture information at point of service; provide secure login access, capture missing signatures; use barcoding to speed up document processing; and convert their paper and microfilm backlog. AP wanted a solution to scan and capture invoices into document imaging, image-enable their Lawson system to allow side-by-side view of both invoice image and data on user screens, automate workflow, post information directly to the Lawson host, and archive invoices for quick and easy retrieval.

As a single vendor, The CSC Group deployed a 2000+ end user, 400 concurrent license enterprise imaging and capture solution that tied together forty (40) capture points throughout the hospital and multiple host systems. CSC-designed interfaces streamline manageability and accessibility to all types of information on a centralized platform via single login access. Everything is done at the desktop.
